DINGWALL LIBRARY

Dingwall School and Community Library opened in the New Dingwall Academy Buildings in June 2008.

There are 3 full time and 6 part time staff plus a School Librarian.

We are open every day from Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9am to 6pm, from 9am until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday.

The library is open to the public, and there are usually Academy pupils and classes using the library for study, computing and as a space to relax in during school hours (9.00am – 3.40pm).

We have a range of activities available, including:

Reading groups: the evening group meets on the last Tuesday of each month from 7.00pm – 8.30 pm in the library; the afternoon group meets on the last Wednesday of each month from 2.00pm – 3.30pm in the library. The groups are friendly and informal and members usually discuss one or two titles they have chosen from the library service multiple copy collection. We also have a teenage reading group who meet in the library during school term time, every second Thursday at 3.45pm – 4.45pm.

Bookbug Sessions: every Thursday morning  11am – 11.20 am.

They are free, fun, informal sessions with trained staff incorporating rhymes, songs, music and stories for pre-school children and their parents / carers to share and enjoy together. We also visit schools and nurseries for special Bookbug sessions.

Poetry group: meets on the first Tuesday of each month, from 6.30pm – 8pm.

Beginners Computer Classes: a free course for those who are complete computer novices! These run twice a year in February and September for 5 weeks, in collaboration with the Adult Education department.

School Visits: we often have primary school visits to the library. These allow the children to become familiar with the library before they move up to the Acadamy, and encourage reluctant readers to visit more often.

Other Events: we also have a range of one-off events throughout the year, such as author visits, exhibitions from local community groups and music from Opera North!
